January 2025 Newsletter

Happy New Year! Remember when (if you’re old enough) there was so much angst when 2000 rolled around? We wondered if our whole data system was going to crash, moving from the 1900s to the 2000s. Back then, only half of Americans had broadband access in their home. Do you remember that dial-up internet sound? Camera phones and USB flash drives were just introduced in 1999, along with the first Bluetooth device. Technology has come a long way since then. Everything is so much “smarter” and faster. While many things are available to make our lives easier, there are still chores around the house you need to do yourself rather than relying on technology:
- As you put your holiday items away, cull out things you didn’t use or that are no longer useful.
- Clean out closets and drawers. If you haven’t touched something in a year, get rid of it.
- Clean places you don’t usually see, like ceiling fans, refrigerator coils, and HVAC vents.
- Shine and tighten doorknobs and hinges, and tighten loose cabinet pulls and knobs.
If you’re a little wiped out after all the holiday festivities, order some food delivery and stream a movie (and take advantage of some of our new technology).
With the close of 2024, so ends the reign of Jason as Chair of the Home Builders Association. Positions are passed to successors in December for the upcoming year. This means the commitment doesn’t strain members too much and allows everyone to step in with their ideas. Here is Jason with the 2025 Chairperson, Matt Firestone.
Building Update
Framing is underway!
We have some new members on our team! We’ve added Aiden Krumwiede as an Apprentice Carpenter and Jadyn Kirchhoff as a Carpenter. Both are getting acclimated to the Willet way and fitting in nicely.
Next month is the annual Nebraska Builders Home and Garden Show, which will be held from February 7 to 9. Admission is $10 for anyone over 12. This year, rather than taking food donations, 10% of ticket sales will be donated to the Food Bank of Lincoln. We’ll be in our usual spot, so stop by and say hi!

Design Corner
We ended 2024 with a minimalist design. Now there’s talk that Minimal Maximalism might be the next trend, which combines the “less is more” mantra with “more is more.” This allows you to keep furniture with clean lines and functionality while adding in art or textiles with bold colors. Or you might have trendy furniture you want to use with a neutral color palette.
Fun Fact
Speaking of technology, did you know Chrysler once had an in-dash record player in their cars? The upper-level vehicles handled it fairly well, but cheaper models didn’t have the suspension to make listening enjoyable. Plus, the LPs were a specific size to the player, so you couldn’t just bring your own albums out on the road. Needless to say, these didn’t last long.
