May Newsletter
Flowers are blooming so it must be May, even though we’ve been seeing flowers for a few weeks. May can be a pretty busy month so I’ll focus on some big picture items rather than a checklist of chores. You may recall that May is National Electrical Safety Month. This is when we remind you to check your cables and cords to make sure there is no sign of wear, make sure power strips aren’t overloaded, and get things wired properly that are on an extension cord for a long period of time, like a window AC unit. We’ve seen houses where extension cords have been used in place of proper wiring, this is just not safe. Please have an electrician get things wired properly, your safety is worth it.
May is also Clean Air Month. Change your filters on your HVAC unit. This will help air quality for those who might have breathing problems. If your ductwork looks clear, that’s a great sign your system is running cleanly.
One more thing to check out is your grill. Especially if you’re planning on hosting any outdoor gatherings that will include grilling tasty vittles. Give it a good cleaning to prevent flare-ups. Besides charring your meat, it might char any nearby structures. Also check the fuel line for any cracks and clear any clogged burner holes.
May marks our anniversary, 31 years in business. Our 30th year saw us move into a new building, complete with a Design Studio. If you haven’t stopped in to check it out, please do. We love our new home.
In April, Jason’s Remodeler’s Advantage group visited Lincoln for their Spring Roundtable event. We were able to show off a little of Lincoln as well as our new Design Studio. The group is comprised of members from across the US who also have remodeling businesses. They share ideas on what works and what doesn’t, helping each other become better at what they do. This month Jeremy’s Production Manager group will be visiting.

Welcome to Joe Mayhew! He is our new Project Consultant and will be focusing primarily on exterior remodeling projects. He’s fitting in nicely and is quickly learning what makes Willet Construction special.
April was also the anniversary for Wes, this time. He had worked with Willet prior to enlisting in the service, then came back six years ago. He has worked his way up from apprentice and is now a Project Manager leading both interior and exterior projects. He has also done tile work.

Design Corner
There are seven basics of interior design. One is balance and space. A space filled with furniture or décor is positive space, while an area without is negative space. Balancing the two creates a beautiful, comfortable room. In the first photo there is very little negative space, leaving little breathing room for your eyes as you move around the room. In the second photo there is negative space and positive space creating a more calm and balanced room.
Fun Fact
Speaking of space, besides the Mexican holiday, May 5th is also the anniversary of our first space trip. In 1961 Alan Shepard became the first American in space. He and his ship, the Freedom 7, reached an altitude of 116 miles above the earth.
