April Newsletter
Spring has sprung and we are into our second quarter of the year. Temperatures are increasing, along with chances of rain. We need moisture, but don’t always appreciate when it dampens our plans. If you must switch gears due to rain, here are some indoor projects you can tackle:
- Pick a room or two to clean ceiling to floor. Dust the ceiling and walls, wash the blinds and light fixtures (if you didn’t do it last month), clean the closet or bookshelves and get rid of items you don’t use. Finish by vacuuming or mopping the floor.
- In the kitchen, wash the cabinet doors and walls. Make sure to dry wood cabinets right away. Add some vinegar to warm water if you have grease to eliminate on painted walls.
- Have your HVAC system checked now so it’s ready for summer temps.
- Check your water heater for signs of rust or evidence of water. Small leaks and rust can lead to big trouble later.
- When it is raining, or after, look for signs of water in your basement or attic. You’ll want to get that taken care of right away. Water issues never get better over time but get more expensive to repair if left too long.
- Clean or replace furnace filters
On the outside:
- March through June is the prime season for termites to thrive and begin tearing through wooden structures. Keep an eye out for tiny insects flying out of the structure of your home. And if you see an exterminator at your neighbor’s house, find out if their issues can cross the yard to your house.
- Check your sprinkler system now so issues can be addressed before you need to supplement the rain.
- Check the screens on your windows and doors for any holes that need repair so little bugs can be kept out.
- If you noticed some of your windows weren’t keeping winter temps out, now is a good time to look into replacing them. If you need help with that, we know a guy.
Tour of Remodeled Homes

April 11-12 were the dates for this year’s Tour of Remodeled Homes, organized by the Remodelers Council of Lincoln. Each year this is an opportunity to see first-hand different types of remodeling projects by different remodelers in Lincoln. The home we had on the tour included a kitchen refresh and a bar/game room update, including windows and a patio door. Thank you to all who came out.

One rule of thumb you can use when choosing colors for your room is the 60-30-10 rule. Most of the room, or about 60%, will be your main color. Your accent color will be about 30% and 10% will be used as pops of color, in accessories, picture frames, or fixtures. You’ll want these items to be spaced around the room to give your eye something to be drawn to.
Fun Fact

Do you think the hottest places on earth are also the driest? This is a classic weather myth. Antarctica, the coldest place on earth, gets about 2 inches of rain a year. Cherrapunji, India receives an average of 1,042 inches of rain per year, and Arica, Chile only .02 inches of rain.
