I’m not sure how crisp our September will be, but personally I’m looking forward to fall temps. School has started and the pools are closed. Leaves have started changing, bringing the lovely colors of fall. While you might not love what comes next, make the most of our September days. If you need something to keep yourself occupied, here are some ideas:

• Clean your siding and check walkways for cracks

• Get your gutters cleaned

• Check for leaky faucets before cold weather hits, fixing plumbing now will be cheaper than a broken pipe

• Check the seals on your windows. If they are frequently foggy between the panes it’s likely a sign of a failed seal

• Have your chimney cleaned now before you light your first fire of the season

• Service your yard equipment now before you store it for next year. It’s better to not have it sit over the winter with old oil and dirt

• Change direction on your ceiling fans to better circulate heat during the winter

• Clean your range hood in preparation for all your holiday cooking

• Clean your microwave by putting a bowl of water in for a minute with a little vinegar or lemon juice. The steam will help make the job easier

• Give your coffee maker a deep clean so you are ready for those cooler mornings

Last month we had a crew participate in the Remodelers Council Golf Tournament. Proceeds benefit the Lincoln Home Builders Care Foundation. This supports community service projects focused on housing, as well as scholarships for students pursuing careers in the building industry. We even had some success! Rick was a Flag Prize Winner; he won the Longest Drive in Fairway at Hole #10, and both Rick and Jenny Samek were raffle winners! (We could have had a winner for shortest drive, but we won’t talk about that.)

Say hello to the newest member of the design team, Jaime Blanken. Jaime comes to us with a wealth of knowledge and experience in various design capabilities. She loves the outdoors and Jeep life. She’s also big into dog rescue and loves baking. She even creates gourmet cheesecakes in her spare time.

Design Corner

Another basic of interior design is light. Light is the most important element for the overall mood in a room; it enhances the colors and textures of a space. You don’t want to rely on just one overhead light source. Layer light with ambient lighting, task lighting, and accent lighting to make the most impact.

September is National Potato Month. Potatoes get a lot of love. February is Potato Lovers Month, and there’s a National Potato Day in August, along with National Potato Lovers Day in February. There’s also National Tater Day in March, National Tater Tot Day in February, and International Day of the Potato in March.
