As we anticipate fall sports, fall foliage, and fall weather, we begin to prepare for cold months ahead. Although we are looking for a warm, dry fall (according to The Old Farmer’s Almanac) keep these chores in mind as you prepare for winter.

This month change your air filters. Some would recommend changing them monthly, but at least quarterly to help keep energy bills low and your systems in good working order. Another thing to do quarterly is check the smoke alarms and make sure the batteries are good.

Service your yard equipment. As you put tools and equipment away for the winter, that is the best time to service them, rather than waiting until spring. It can be harmful for equipment to sit over the winter with old oil and dirt in and on them. Replace filters, install new blades if needed, perform lubrication and other maintenance required according to your manuals. Don’t drain gas tanks completely but do fill with gas without ethanol and with a preservative before storing for the winter.

Use the good weather we have left to get your exterior in good working order – make sure lights are working and no bulbs need replacement, put away summer toys and drain the pool, give your lawn a feeding of fertilizer, get sprinklers drained and hoses put away. Keep the rake handy for the leaves that are yet to fall.

Building Update – We’ve moved in! Before we host an open house, there are a few finishing touches we want done. Look for details coming in October.

Project of the Month – Multi-Room Update

Design Corner – According to a report by the National Association of Realtors (NAR) the top three projects that brought the most joy to homeowners are:

  • Addition of a primary bedroom suite
  • Kitchen Upgrade
  • New Roofing

Fun Fact – The first mobile phone was released in 1983 and cost $4,000 ($11,000 in today’s numbers). The Motorola DynaTAC 8000x weighed two pounds and was nicknamed the “brick phone”.
