November 2023: Holiday Season

Tree path with fall colors

Whether you dread it or love it, the onset of holidays is near. Cooking fires are the number one cause of home fires and home fire injuries, according to the U.S. Fire Administration.

Cooking causes nearly half of all home structure fires in the U.S. No matter if you’re hosting a large gathering or just spending a quiet day at home, now is a good time to make sure you’re cooking safely:

  • Keep flammable materials like pot holders, towels, or curtains away from the stove or oven.
  • Don’t leave cooking unattended.
  • Remember to turn off appliances after food is done.
  • Have a fire extinguisher nearby for emergencies.

Now is also a great time to remember to remove the crumbs from the toaster and toaster oven. Clean out the pantry and refrigerator and clean the dishwasher.

In the bedrooms, wash pillows and blankets. Regular washing keeps dust mites away and helps prevent allergens from building up. Vacuum under the beds and give those dust bunnies the boot before the holidays.

The 16th Annual Sporting Clay Shoot

The 16th Annual Sporting Clay Shoot was held in October at the Oak Creek Sporting Club near Brainard. This event is hosted by the Home Builders Association of Lincoln. Proceeds go to the Home Builders Care Foundation. Willet Construction was represented by Brian Willet, Rick Willet, Eric McMann, Jason Willet, and Jonathan Goertzen.

Featured Project: Sutton Bathrooms

The Sutton bathroom project involved upgrading two bathrooms without changing their size. The main focus was on expanding the showers, improving the closet organization, and enhancing the overall aesthetics.

In the hall bath, the shower area was enlarged by removing chases on either side, and the room was brightened with new lighting, paint, and flooring, along with additional storage.

In the primary bath, the shower area was expanded, the vanity was extended for more space, and the closet was reconfigured for better storage. Both bathrooms received new flooring, paint, and lighting, and crown molding was added as a finishing touch.

Growing Families

We haven’t shared baby news in a while! In July, Justine helped welcome grandbaby #6 into the world. Vincent arrived on his due date and is the first child of Abby and Jason, Justine’s daughter and son-in-law. They live on a farm in Iowa.

Up to 80% of our health outcomes are related to our physical environment. Where you live should be safe and easy to keep clean. One trend we’ve seen become more common is replacing a tub with a walk-in shower.

Sometimes, it’s just a bathing preference, but it’s also done to allow for aging in place. This is when someone wants to remain in their current home rather than move to an assisted living facility or nursing home. Here are some examples of transitions we’ve made for some of our customers.

November’s Fun Fact

A month on Venus is longer than a year on Venus. One day on Venus is 243 Earth days long. A Venus year — one trip around the sun — is only 225 Earth days. The planet has an extremely slow rotation, and it spins backward compared to Earth.
