July 2025 Newsletter

Our country celebrates 249 years of independence this year. Most Americans lived in rural farming villages, with less than 10% living in cities back then. One thing they did then that we still do now is to grow our own food. You can plant a fall veggie garden now and reap the rewards this fall. You could harvest basil, broccoli, cauliflower, or some leafy greens.

If you’re not into gardening, maybe planning a summer party would be fun. Wash your outdoor furniture, and tidy up outdoor seating areas. Maybe add some decorative elements or lighting to make the space more inviting, even if it’s only for your own enjoyment. While you’re washing furniture, perhaps your deck or patio could use some soapy attention.

After getting everything washed outside, you might be ready for a shower yourself. While you’re in there, give your shower and bathroom a good scrubbing. Check around the toilet and sink for puddling or dripping water. This would be a sign of leaking that you’ll want to fix ASAP. Don’t be alarmed with a little condensation, however, that is perfectly normal this time of year.

Another thing you can do is update a closet. You can start with a small one and work your way up from there. Take everything out and give it a good cleaning, maybe even a fresh coat of paint. Before you pile everything back in, go through the items and see what you could get rid of. Do you really need that jacket from 15 years ago? When was the last time that toy was played with? Giving each item some thought will help you achieve a more organized and less cluttered closet.

Now relax and enjoy the fruits of your labors.

Building Update

We finally have AC! The warehouse and shop areas are about finished. Most of the interior painting is done. Flooring and tile are being installed, and display areas are coming together.

One area of the home that probably doesn’t get enough attention is the closet. Having a spot for everything helps you to be organized. Whether you have a large or small closet, you have a lot of options for storage solutions.

Fun Fact

Did you know the Thomas P. Kennard House at 16th & H streets is the oldest remaining building in Lincoln’s original plan?  It is an Italianate-style house and was built in 1869. The home considered to be the oldest in Nebraska is a cabin located in Bellevue, built in the 1830s.
