February 2023: Plenty To Celebrate

One of the best things about February is that spring is just around the corner, no matter what the groundhog said. But while we’re here, there are several ways to celebrate this month. Will you host a Super Bowl party or have company for Valentine’s Day? If so, the culling and organizing you did last month will make it all easier.

Some other things to do around the house this month are:

• Replace your furnace filter.
• Clean and vacuum your curtains and blinds.
• Check your roof for ice dams and icicles (you should do this throughout winter).
• Test your carbon monoxide and smoke detectors; replace batteries.
• Check caulking around showers and tubs, repair as needed.
• Repair any interior wall damage, touch-up, or repaint as needed.

If you’re looking for something fun to do, February is National Bake for Family Fun Month and National Library Lover’s Month. Feb. 12–18 is Great American Pizza Bake Week and National Secondhand Wardrobe Week. It’s also Random Acts of Kindness Week, but I think you can celebrate that year-round.

This month, another thing to do is attend the Nebraska Builders Home & Garden Show at the Lancaster Event Center, from Feb. 10 to 12.

According to an article from Houzz, colors for 2023 are moving from greens to more of a variety. PPG and Glidden have a darker blue-green color as their color for 2023, Vining Ivy. Valspar chooses to highlight 12 trending paint colors rather than settle on one. One of these is also a saturated blue-green.

Sherwin Williams is going for Redend Point, a slightly pink sand color. Rustic Greige by Dutch Boy is also a sandy color with a “kiss” of pink. Benjamin Moore’s pink is less subtle, Raspberry Blush, and would be great for the dining room or where you want to stimulate conversation. And then Behr is choosing Blank Canvas, an off-white with a touch of warmth.

Fun Fact

The narwhal tusk reveals its past living conditions. It adds a layer to its tusk every year, much like a tree adds rings. You can tell how old the animal was, the level of pollution, temperature levels, and even their diet. They’ve been known to live up to 50 years!
