It’s officially fall — the leaves are turning, and we’re starting to brace for the winter to come. If you have a wood deck, cleaning and sealing it now will help protect it over the winter. Cold temperatures and snow can cause paint to peel, which can lead to moisture and wood rot.

While you’re getting out your Halloween decorations, wind up your hoses and store them in your shed or garage. Leaving them attached to your spigot can lead to frozen lines. While you’re at it, cover or store your yard furniture and grill as well.

Have you noticed that your clothes aren’t drying as fast as they used to? This could mean your dryer vent needs to be cleaned. Doing so will also help prevent possible fire hazards and improve your electric bill.

On the last nice days of the year, do a fall cleaning — wash windows, screens, and window coverings. Get them sparkling so you can enjoy the view of snow falling in the months to come.

September was a busy travel month for Remodelers Advantage members. The annual Remodeler’s Advantage Summit took place in San Diego and was attended by Jason, who was recognized as the MVP of his roundtable peer group, Izar. Jeremy also met with his roundtable peer group of production managers, who shared best practices with each other. The views were fantastic, and the suggestions and guidance received will be put to work back here in Lincoln.

An example of the coastal design style in a home

What better way to prepare for a Nebraska fall than by presenting a coastal design style for October? Just the word coastal brings visions of beaches, seashells, and water. It’s a casual style with natural elements, white-washed wood or natural wood tones, blues, and plenty of white. Bring the beach into your home without the sand.

Fun Fact

An image of Robert Goddard

October is the month Robert Goddard was born in 1882. He was ridiculed over his idea of building a space flight machine, but he launched the world’s first liquid-fueled rocket in 1926. This and other accomplishments earned him the title “Father of the Space Age.”

It was also the month, in 1947, that Chuck Yeager broke the sound barrier in a rocket-powered aircraft. In October of 1958, NASA launched the lunar probe Pioneer 1.
