January 2024: Happy New Year!

HAPPY NEW YEAR! The festivities are behind us, and the opportunity for new beginnings awaits. After you’ve taken a much-deserved breather from the holiday demands, it’s time to shift focus to what’s next.

Here are some home maintenance tasks to help start your year off on a healthy trend:

  • Clean water filters in your refrigerator, faucet system, or water pitcher.
  • Clean bathroom tub and sink drains. Dirty water held in the pipes can allow mold and mildew to grow.
  • Clean and organize closets. What a great way to start the year and spend your indoor time when it’s too cold to go outside. After you’ve purged, consider a better organization system for your closet — we can help with that.
  • Check for icicles hanging from the gutters. If you have them, it could mean ice dams and the potential for roof damage and leaks. To prevent them, keep warm air from entering your attic by making sure you have enough insulation and ventilation. Make sure gutters and downspouts are clear.
  • Wipe down kitchen cabinets and hardware. You might be surprised by the difference it makes.
  • Be prepared for accidents and disasters by updating your home inventory list — or starting one. Take photos or videos, and keep the file in a safe place.

Our Celebrations

Our very own Jason Willet has added a new position to his resume. He is now chair of the Remodelers Council of Lincoln for 2024. This is a one-year position.

The council was started in 1986 and has grown to approximately 100 companies. One of their duties is to organize the Tour of Remodeled Homes held each April.

The homeowners requested a bathroom remodel to align their living spaces with their current lifestyle.

In the hall bath, the tub was replaced with a walk-in shower featuring rectangular sinks and a gray quartz countertop. The floor was upgraded with 24×24 tile, complemented by matching tile baseboards. Additional enhancements included new plumbing fixtures, paint, and light fixtures.

For the primary bath, we installed new countertops and completed a reconfiguration of the tub and shower area. This involved expanding the shower, introducing linen storage, and incorporating a free-standing tub.

The flooring and shower walls were adorned with 24×24 matte tile, lending a soft touch to the space, while the remaining walls received 8×24 white tile.

Design Corner

If you’re a fan of eclectic design, it’s probably because the word means “to choose the best” in Greek — “eklektikos.” It brings characteristics together from different styles. So, if you have trouble deciding what style you prefer, embrace the eclectic style and simply choose things you love and build the color palette from those.

Building a room off of a favorite piece of furniture or fixture isn’t so daunting if you don’t restrict yourself to the style to which that piece belongs. Making space for heirlooms or found objects you cherish makes a room more meaningful and pleasant to spend time in.

Fun Fact

You can hear a blue whale’s heartbeat more than 2 miles away. The world’s largest animal’s heart weighs about 400 pounds, approximately the size of a small piano.
