Happy 4th of July

Household Maintenance Tips

It’s June and summer is here! We’ve already experienced temperatures in the 90s, and, more than likely, your AC has been turned on. If you haven’t done so already, make sure you change your filter. This helps keep your HVAC running smoothly. To extend the life of your AC unit, only adjust your programmable thermostat by 2 or 3 degrees at a time.

Along with the high temperatures, we’ve seen heavy rains. This combination of high temperatures and heavy rain can lead to mold. One way to protect your home is having your thermostat set to AUTO instead of ON. Choosing this setting allows the condensation in your AC a chance to drain off rather than get blown back into your home. You also want to make sure no registers are closed. Closed registers can cause condensation to build up!

To help keep your home safe from those crawling pests outside, trim your landscaping around your home, so none of it is touching the exterior of your home. Another great way to keep pests away is to change your exterior light bulbs. Change your bulbs from mercury vapor to yellow sodium vapor. Yellow sodium vapor bulbs are less attractive to insects. Make sure you keep bird feeders at least 25 feet from your house, as spilled seeds can attract rodents.

Featured Project: Finished Basement

The owners wanted to up the “wow factor” in this basement. To add a little drama to the TV wall, it was ‘paneled’ with a wood-look ceramic tile. It was then prepped to receive a new TV with a sound system, floating cabinet, shelf, and some amazing art sconce lights.

To add a bar area, we removed part of a wall that separated the main room from a storage area. New electrical and plumbing were roughed in for the appliances, light fixtures and granite sink. Luxury vinyl tile was installed in the bar area and the entire room was newly painted and carpeted. New taller base trim was installed.

New custom cabinets were installed and an island was created. Cabinetry includes wine racks, glass doors for display and lock for the liquor cabinet. More appeal was added with the quartz waterfall countertop on the island. Tile for the backsplash was installed in a herringbone pattern with a marble-look tile. The look was completed with new pendants above the island.

Congratulations!

Congratulations to Justine on the birth of her fourth grandchild! With the pandemic, she had to wait a couple of weeks before she was able to get her hands on the bouncing baby boy, but it was worth the wait. He came into this world at 9 lbs. 7 oz. and joined two brothers and a sister!
