A budding tree in a yard.

If April showers bring May flowers, what do May flowers bring? Pilgrims! That’s an oldie but a goodie. Speaking of May flowers, have you tended to your garden beds yet? Cover your beds with 2 to 4 inches of mulch to prevent evaporation and keep weeds in check.

Now is also a good time to feed your lawn. Give it a high-nitrogen fertilizer to help it look great all summer. If you have any spring (or summer) parties planned, get your yard looking good now so you don’t have to do it last minute.

May is National Electrical Safety Month, so now’s the perfect time to check your home. Look at cords to ensure there are no damaged or worn areas. Ensure power strips aren’t overloaded, and blow the dust off them.

If you’re using an extension cord for a permanent item, like your fridge or another constantly running appliance, work with an electrician to find a permanent solution. Lastly, cover unused outlets if you have young children living in or visiting your home. Curious kiddos love to explore.

It’s time to dust off that grill and clean it out. Get a clean grill brush and soak the grates in hot, soapy water. Dishwasher soap or another high-alkaline cleaner works best. Make sure your connections are secure and the hoses are in good condition.

Check fences and gates for warping, twisting wood, or loose pickets. Check for low areas where critters might crawl through.

Guildmaster award for service excellence logo

Have you heard the news? Willet Construction has been awarded the 2024 Guildmaster Award for demonstrating exceptional customer service within the residential construction industry.

Since 2005, GuildQuality, an Atlanta-based third-party company that surveys customer satisfaction, has powered the Guildmaster Award to recognize and celebrate home building, remodeling, and contracting professionals who demonstrate the highest level of customer service within the U.S. and Canada.

Out of nearly 2,000 eligible applicants, Willet Construction is one of 400+ businesses within the residential construction industry recognized by GuildQuality for consistently delivering superior customer care.

In determining which businesses received the 2024 Guildmaster Award, GuildQuality reviewed thousands of survey responses submitted by customers of Guildmaster candidates and considered two primary metrics for each candidate: the percentage of customers stating they would recommend the business to a friend and the percentage of customers who responded.

Willet Construction achieved a recommendation rate of 90% or above from their customers surveyed by GuildQuality.

Business people at a round table

One resource contributing to our positive reviews is our membership with Remodeler’s Advantage. It’s a continued source of information from other remodelers/owners nationwide. Last month, Jason attended the semiannual roundtable meeting in Seattle. This photo shows Jason and other members of our Izar group in front of the Seattle skyline.

Jeremy also attended his semiannual meeting with Remodeler’s Advantage, held in Madison, WI. He met with other production managers from around the country to discuss ways to manage projects better and service our customers.

Jeremy and Jason’s groups are made up of members from different companies. This is done to have a broader information base to compare and discuss.

In keeping with Willet Construction’s practice of continually updating our knowledge of materials and best practices, Jonathan attended a “Boot Camp” at Andersen Windows & Doors last month.

Although he thought he was pretty knowledgeable about Andersen products, he felt it was a very informative trip. Now, he’ll be able to help our clients make the best choices when choosing their new windows and doors.

This month, the design focus is on Midcentury Modern. This look is ‘50s- and ‘60s-inspired (back in the 1900s) and is the most common and relatable style. Pieces designed during this time are still fresh, modern, and relevant. The clean lines and functionality mixed with warm woods and purposeful details are as much in demand now as they were then.

Fun Fact

While the thought of getting bitten by a shark keeps some people out of the water, did you know that cows kill more people than sharks per year?

Sharks will bite more people, but about one person in 50 will die of their injury. However, 20-22 deaths occur each year from cattle. Most of these occur when people enter pastures where they don’t belong.
